Beautiful Belwood Lake is a 12-kilometre reservoir on the Grand River in southwestern Ontario. The construction of the Shand Dam created the Belwood lake. It straddles 2 counties and the Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) manages it.
Our shorelines teem with wildlife – Great Blue Herons and Great Egrets fish for breakfast in the bays and coves dotting Belwood Lake. Joined by Belted Kingfishers and Osprey, Belwood’s birds give our fish a run for their money!
Carp thrash wildly along the shoreline in their early spring mating rituals. Furthermore, Trumpeter Swans swoop overhead and visit briefly during their annual migration.

Keep your eyes open for fox kits in early spring; they’re a delightful sight! You’ll encounter an array of fascinating wildlife, including mischievous Rocky Raccoons, charming Pepé Le Pew skunks, and graceful Bambi deer. Discover busy beavers, playful chipmunks, and elusive coyotes groundhogs, mink, muskrats, squirrels, and turtles make their home here. The vibrant wildlife at Belwood Lake creates an exciting adventure for every nature lover.

Outstanding recreational activities at Lake Belwood abound. Cottagers enjoy boating, canoeing, fishing, floatplaning, kayaking, paddle boarding, sailing, swimming, wakeboarding, and waterskiing.
Or take a hike or bike ride on the Elora Cataract Trailway to the Shand Dam at the south end of the lake. Pack your water bottle and binoculars!
Belwood’s night skies are glorious. Our moonscapes are magnificent. Shooting stars zip through the darkness. Stargazing is at its peak. Time to crack open the marshmallows. Bonfire, anyone?
